This verse challenges my perspective. The world views suffering and difficulty as evidence of God being against us, or of damnation. It’s the same old legalistic view. But in Christ, I am to recognize that I am called not only to salvation but to suffering for Him and the gospel. Will I count it joy to fall into trial? Will I look at my difficulty and praise God for it, that I might be an open reflection of Christ and the gospel here on the earth? Will I embrace all manner of evil done to me and endure in Christ as Christ, knowing full well this is confirmation of my salvation? I can only confess my weakness in this area and pray that God strengthens my resolve to face trials with Him, letting them produce the endurance that has its perfecting work of making me into the image of Christ (James 1)
